Risks in Body Piercing

Body piercing on body parts such as the nostrils, tongue, cheeks and the belly button are not new.  We love it because even celebrities have it.  They see it as a form of self expression.  But if you’re thinking about getting pierced, better have a research first.

It’s always a good idea to find out what are the risks in having it.  And so you can better protect your self from these risks.  Body piercing puts you at higher risk for infection and complications.  Infection is a common complication that you can get from piercing your mouth and nose.  This is because of the million bacteria living in these areas.  Piercing the lip, tongue and cheeks may cause gum problems and tongue piercing may damage the teeth overtime.  Before getting a mouth and tongue piercing, make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy.  Signs of infection show redness on the pierced area or prolonged bleeding.  Some people with a certain type of heart disease are at higher risk for a heart infection after piercing.

If you are pregnant or if you have skin disorder, problems with your immune system, infection or prone to getting keloids, body piercing is not a good idea.  Better ask your doctor if it is safe or if there are precautions you should take before having your body parts pierced.
